What is solar energy?
Solar energy is energy produced from our sun. The sun is generating approximately 3.9x in 1026 watts or 390,000,000,000,000,000,000,000,000 watts of energy. Part of this energy can now be absorbed and converted into heat or electrical energy
There are four main ways in which solar energy from the sun is captured, these are :.
o Flat plate liquid-filled solar panels for heating water
o flat plate Gas-filled solar panels for space heating
o Photovoltaic cells to generate electricity
o passive solar heating
Flat plate liquid-filled solar panels
A flat plate liquid solar collector is basically a metal box, usually isolated, a glass cover on a dark colored metal plate (copper or aluminum cheaper) has. This plate absorbs heat from the sun and warms up. This heat is passed to water passing through tubes under the plate. The heated water then flows through the heat residential hot water system ..
A more efficient variation of this is the vacuum tube system. With this system, the heat collectors are sealed in a vacuum glass tube, which significantly reduces the loss of heat, which makes the system more energy efficient.
Flat Plate Gas-filled solar panels
A flat plate gas collector solar energy much the same structure as the liquid version, but instead of water-absorbing solar energy collected is air . The heated air is then pumped by heating a room or space in that space. Although not as efficient as a liquid flow, the gas-based systems have the advantage of requiring less solar energy to heat up, so that they begin dispensing of heat earlier in the day later in the evening.
Photovoltaic (Solar Electrical)
photovoltaic energy is a technology that crystalline silicon solar cells used to convert sunlight, aka solar energy into electricity. The applications for this can vary from very large installations generating electricity down to small cells that flow calculator.
passive solar energy when the sun heats an object and that object gives off heat when the sun is gone. Passive solar energy is something we all appreciate and take advantage of our homes. Works the same way as a modern boiler design is now able to optimize the use of solar energy in this way.
